365 Challenge Update Restaurant Review IHop Lethbridge

365 Challenge Update
Restaurant Review
IHop Lethbridge

January and we were off and running to a new restaurant to me.  IHop.  Heard about.  Saw the and heard advertising for it.  So on a busy end month day we decided to go in for an early lunch.  Myself, hubby, Mom and a dear friend all went.

Lethbridge IHop:
Staff:  Manager Type was well kept.  Quiet though.  Could have interacted more and smiled.

Waitress was awesome.  Patient when all of us took our time with figuring out our order.  Bubbly and smiles.  Not over the top yet genuinely friendly.  Didn't bug us often either like other places are known to do.

The Food:  All meals were well received.  Incredible flavor.  I like that they have options to cater to health concerns.  With a quick mention of take this out and add that please was done in an instant.  Apart of their Company routine.  This is awesome for health conscious people.

So lets get down to it.  The main plate:  I had the most incredible breakfast restaurant meal ever.  The eggs were not grease laden.  The meat just crisp enough, properly cooked through and wonderful flavor.  Now, personally, I hate hasbrowns.  I wondered if I deliberately chose the meal I did because of that.  What I found was really delightful.  No freezer burn.  No over processed flavor.  They were not dripping in grease.  I am glad that I liked them so much due to being picked on for not liking hasbrowns.  Now I can officially say 'I am just picky!'

The second plated item was french toast with cream filing and topped with blueberries and whipped cream.  If you are old enough to remember donut shops before they changed recipes you will love this.  It reminded me of actual proper made fritters.  The melt in your mouth kind with abundant flavor.  Now I do have to mention I chose blueberry.  Another picky part of me.  A lot of restaurants use bland or over sugar sweetened blueberries.  IHop's blueberries are right smack in the middle of that.  An appreciated surprise.  Nothing will beat home made jams and blueberry pie made of East Coast off the shore blueberries.  These impressed me.

Over all it was an excellent experience.  Only one thing surprised me.  We had to ask for water.

Home and Routines by Cutting Out the Fear

Home and Routines by Cutting Out the Fear

There probably many out there with a mess in places within their homes.  Maybe even the whole house.  I am not about to spout off statistics and give the run around of numbers.  You are spared on this one.  What I want to talk about is the various reasons we go through these things and what questions you need to look at and where you may find yourself needing a bit more support.  There are many reasons to why things get out of control and there are many ways to get help.
Parents were messy:  You are so worried about it that you become messy.  It consumes your time.  You need to stop and think about it.  You are not your parents.  There is a lot of information out there on routines.  Find the building technique that works for you and practice.  Keep up on routines and this clear it self up.
Moved in with some one or married:  Combining houses is not an easy task.  I would bet that it was easier when girls still lived at home before marriage.  It is going to be OK.  Stick with routines while leaving room for the other persons.  Share responsibilities and have them mapped out as expectations before moving in.  Do allow for illness and change to bounce it around a little.  Discuss favorite furniture and needed items together.  This way you work with each other and understand why a particular item is so important to you.  You may have all of grandmother's living room set.  Do you need all of it?  Could pieces be given to other family members.  Is it Ugly to you in the first place?  Don't keep items that are Ugly to you.  Just because it was grandmother's does not mean you have to keep it for life.  Ask questions and compromise.  Then right into routines.  Keep up on the boxes and loose items.  You will make it through fine.  Recruit family and friends to assist in the move.
Hoarding habits keeping things in chaos:  Well you will need some assistance here.  You need to find the root cause.  Was it parents?  Was there a loss of something that has you feeling out of control?  A traumatic event could have set this in motion.  All of these things require determination and a professional councillor to assist you in moving forward and to remove bad habits.
Babies, little ones, teens an issue:  Really push through and build routines.  Their stages change quickly and soon enough they will be out of the house and on their own.  If it is to much for you then you may want to speak with someone.  Maybe a relative or good friend will do.  The Internet has many places to find ideas, tips and tricks for the various stages and difficulties that child may be going through.  Adapt to the specific needs of your home.  Keep at it and eventually you will make it through to the next stage or phase within your own life.
Dramatic change in your life:  Divorce, loss of a partner, medical condition, change in job or location, and there is so much more can throw a home into lack of structure based on being an adult alone.  Take your time and plan out what the changes are.  Look into the Internet and various community supports if available in your area for your concern.  Check in with others that are having the same difficulties with getting back into routine and the adjustments that need to be made.
As you can see there are a lot of things that at one time or another can create a bit of mess in the home.  All of it is common and there are many success stories out there.  Whatever fear caused the situation can be worked through and developed into a more positive atmosphere for you.  It takes routines.  It takes practice.  In some cases it takes professional home help and professional counselling.  It can all be over come with perseverance and dedication.  All the stuff I know each and everyone of you have.   Happy cleaning!  Time to get the Fear out of the DustBunnyHell.

The Art of Self Dicipline.

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to be picture perfect first thing in the morning?  Or maybe how some people manage to do so much in so little time?  Or...even...how do some people go through life looking like it is clear smooth sailing?  Well I am here to say this.  It takes practice.  Self Discipline can change the way you look at things and how you day to day plays out for you.
Everything in life worth doing takes education and practice.  Hopefully today I can assist you in learning how to change and develop your Self Discipline.  If you have a sense of no discipline within yourself, an injury, past trauma, present drama, or disability depending on the type, you can learn self discipline.  Sometimes we need a friend, loved one or helping hand in the things we do and this one it is OK to recruit help.
The first thing I would like you to do is to write a list of things that you are already disciplined on.  The list could be as long as you like.  For right now three items will do.  You can add new items as you find and develop them.  The list could look like:
  1. I get dressed in the morning.  (even if it is sweat pants and grubby t-shirt)
  2. I eat breakfast.
  3. I walk everyday for 10 minutes.
Now we need to write a list to develop these things further.  They need to be defined in such away that the change is an achievement of change and positive in nature.  You could look at this as goal setting if you choose to.  I choose to call this Simple Steps to Positive Change.  Now this list is going to change with reasons and examples with them.

1.  I get dressed in the morning equals "I want to look put together when I start my day and not have to worry if I forgot to mascara one set of eyelashes."
Here are some things you can do to change this:
  1. On a day when you are in a good mood pick and choose your outfits for a couple of days or for the week.  Put together good combinations.  If you go to the gym or have certain work out clothes then set these up as well.  Have a house painting project then put those clothes in the line up for that day.  So you will have maybe one or even three outfits already assigned for each day.
  2. Organize your accessories to each outfit ahead of time as well.
  3. Make sure your make-up area is organized and have a separate set for your purse (for touch-ups during the day).  This will save you time in trying to figure out where you had certain items last.
  4. Hair.  Get yourself a hair design or learn new techniques that will make it easier to style in the morning.  If you have done the above then you have already saved time and have extra to do your hair.
  5. Start each week waking up five minutes earlier (means going to bed earlier if need be) until you have the required amount of time needed to start you day.  It could look like:  This week I woke at 7 am and it was not enough time.  The second week I woke up at 6:55 and still a little difficult.  The third week I will wake up at 6:50 and check that out.  Adjust on a weekly gradual basis instead of thinking I can just instantly program myself to get up an hour earlier starting tomorrow.
2.  I eat breakfast equals "I want to eat a healthier breakfast than a coffee and toast."
Here are some things to change this:
  1. Boil eggs the night before.
  2. Set out cereal and bowls the night before.
  3. Use morning breakfast drinks.  Just add milk or juice.
  4. Adjust your time in the morning as we did in the above example until you get your proper wake up time to accomplish what you need to.  A good breakfast.
3.  I walk everyday for 10 minutes equals "I want to walk longer distances and at 30 minutes each during the week.
Here are some things to change this:
  1. Always consult with your doctor.  If you have a disability or injury, maybe even just starting out then this is a requirement.  You don't want to hurt yourself.
  2. Make sure you have the right walking shoes.  They do make a difference.
  3. Add in warm up exercises.  This may help you go further.  It may also slow your first week down depending on your abilities.  So don't be surprised.
  4. Week one push to add just five minutes.  It doesn't matter how far you go as long as you can go the time without causes undue pain.  When you master this time frame you add on another five minutes.
Practice and adjustments will take some time.  Each new adjustment will require its own sense of timing in your ability to adapt.  How long will each step take is up to you to master and it also depends on the step you are taking.  If you have never worn make-up before then you need to learn basic application techniques first.  I wouldn't recommend the whole do right out of the gate.  Practice first.  Add new steps as mastered.  Each step will take its own time and it is important to master each one before going to the next step.
The real benefit is in the release of confidence that will show through as you master the Art of Self-Discipline.  By the way if your breakfast and getting out the door is on your list then you will have mastered your morning routine.  This is the best, long lasting way to develop routines for yourself, your home, and next week we will explore the adaption to work and hobbies.

Until then!

Canadian Call to Activism

Canadian Call to Activism

Within My 365 Goal Challenge that I accepted, I mentioned advocating and standing up for others. I am asking...PLEADING...with other bloggers to join in and spread the word. To write letters to ministers within our government. To stand beside these causes. Ask your followers to stand up with you. Make a page specifically about Activism and standing up for others.

First entry:

There is a woman here in Canada under threat of deportation just because she is not blood to her family. The minister has denied this lady immigrant status under humanitarian need. She is 83 years old. Squatters took over her home in her place of origin. Her only family is here, her relatives here pay for everything for her and the government wants to send her home. No valid reason. No reason at all! This behavior is not the home I love. It is not what I was raised that our home is about either.

Write The ministers involved. Write all of them...make noise and save this mother, grandmother, woman from certain lonely death.

 Thank-you! Nadine

365 Challenge Update Baking Recipe #2

365 Challenge Update Baking Recipe #2

This one turned out very well.  Oh I was amazed at the idea and thought that maybe it would not turn out so well.

This is what I did:

One French Vanilla Home Made Cake Recipe.
Use required amount of eggs and oil.  Remove water and/or milk.
Add in 500mg of thick Blueberry sauce.  The kind with whole blueberry in it.  I made this one as well.
Mix with beater until completely mixed.  Batter will be thick and heavy.
Bake at same temperature and time as your original recipe.

Now there is a modification that can be made here with ready make items.
One Cake mix Duncan Hines Equivalent box size.
One can of 500 plus mgs of pie filing.
Follow the above directions for eggs, oil, milk/water.

This cake turned out super moist and full of flavor.

The Hobbit.

My husband and I went to see The Hobbit for our 21st Anniversary outing.  It was worth seeing in the theater.  We had a great time and it is a wonderful story.  I only wish that the posting on the website about how long it was...well it was not accurate.  I was not expecting to sit there the length of time that I did.  Really needed to pace the treats for this one.
The story is really fitting to the book.  The scenery is spectacular as with the Lord Of The Rings.  It was nice to see how the two were intermingled int he beginning.  Great acting as always by the Cast.
I know....short and sweet but really what can one say about a well done classic put extremely well done to film!?

January Seasonal Tips 3

January Seasonal Tips 3

The weather around here is crazy like usual.  Below zero and bouncing up the ten Celsius.  Around these parts the flu season can hit as badly as a harsh winter storm.  The unpredictable weather makes it difficult for the body to adapt to the rapid changes and makes it easy to catch anything going around.
This weeks tips:
  1. Even if it feels and looks warm put you heavier clothing in the car.  If it drops later you'll be able to warm up.
  2. If you car pool or transit then take extra gear in a medium to large carry bag.
  3. Dress in layers.  Add when colder and remove when warmer.
  4. Regularly wash your hands.  Especially out in public.
  5. If you need to, carry your own sanitizer.
  6. Take extra Vitamin C.
  7. Take Kleenex and such items in their own pouch or Ziploc bag.
Just a few tips to keep you happy and healthy this flu and cold season.

Code 2a I will be Pretty
Code 2a I will be Pretty

Guess what? You already are!

Now the question is…do you believe me?

I have personally witnessed a friend of mine, from years ago find LOVE and ACCEPTANCE. She had a very bad facial disfigurement due to an accident. It wasn’t sympathies or insincerity Genuine. Real. From a lot of people. Myself included.
It really doesn’t matter what you look like. There are people in this world that see you as pretty. Everyone else doesn’t matter. Seriously! The most important thing is that you believe you are. I believe you are. :)
Now there are some things with this code:
  1. If you can get away with natural products and feel and be pretty without make-up I applaud you! I sincerely do. Stick to it and keep it up!
  2. If you wear a little and still uncomfortable…learn some skills. Spice it up a little. Just a little.
  3. If you have heard these harsh words “you look like a clown” or worse then you may want to tone it down. Take a good look in the mirror and objectively look at it. Take a picture as it shows how people actually see you.
  4. With all things looks…take a photo. Look at it as if you never saw yourself before. What would make you more comfortable? That is what matters. Positive change only! No bashing yourself!
Here is the biggest one: Stop falling for the movies, TV, and magazines. Photo shopped is not real. Be real real!

Be Pretty everyday! Add it to your routine. (oh really sick days…no fuss required!)

An Office Recycle and Declutter

An Office Recycle and Declutter

So, for a show of hands, who has a side spot for an office of household planning spot?  OK, now who let it get cluttered due to packing Christmas Season decorations?  I appear to be guilty on two accounts.  I even found a few things that needed to be hung or put into the Christmas Left over box for stray seasonal items.

After Photo - declutter and
Organization.  Office Space.
  Recycled - repurposed
bakers rack

On the whim of recycling or repurposing I turned this bakers rack into an office station.  I used it for needed typical home office supplies.  This is actually my run the household location.  With the a few containers, odds and ends, and some things put back where they belong...this project only took about a 20 minutes to do.
I have included the following items:
  • Binders for household routines, menus and maintenance.
  • Charging stand for phones and such.
  • Files and clip boards on the bottom.
  • Routine regular exercise journals and such.
  • Coupon holders and bill day folders.
  • Office in a bag.  Here I used a men's bathroom travel bag.  I like the squared corners and I find it holds things a little bit better.  While I am certain that particular things may need to be transferred to a women's toiletry bag as a lot of those have compartments and storage areas.
This is just one idea for small spots that can be turned into something really functioning when you do not have much for space.

I hope you enjoyed this idea!  Happy Recycling, Repurposing, Decluttering and Organizing the Office this week!

What ideas do you have for small space?

January Seasonal Tips

January Seasonal Tips

What is there to say about the second week of January?  I suppose there can be a lot.  My husband and I just celebrated 21years of marriage.  Now that is something.  :)  Yet so much more can be said about organizing time, safety tips, and general organizing.  A lot more.

What would any tips list look like on a monthly basis?  What should be included?  If you have any ideas on what types of things you would like to see, please comment below.

Seasonal Tips:
  1. I hope you have the celebration box or container working for you from last week.  Take a quick look around and see what else you can find.
  2. Start re-working a house clean up.  Small details that need to be put back in place.  For instance at my house I have Christmas door mats.  I have to make sure the usual ones get put back into place.
  3. If you are snow bound remember to take your time shoveling and lift properly with your legs and back.  It is not recommended to throw the snow as this is when most people put their backs out.  Second by packing to heavy a weight on the shovel.
  4. If you are stuck with just plain wet or raining then check your wet mats, drip trays etc.  See if any need repair or replacing.  It will save later on wear and tear of your floors as well as on your time doing chores.
  5. Book a snow day.  even if you are sun tanning elsewhere in the world.  Take a day in and cuddle up, play some board or cards games, and enjoy some relaxation.

Time Scheduling

Time Scheduling:

Over the years I have found many different ways to schedule and monitor time by progress and by increments.  There are a few different versions out there.  I know a lot of people have fallen reliant on electronics.  This is not a big concern till you realize you didn't charge the used device, left it somewhere, had it stolen, or the device gets broken.
In any of the above mentioned events you should always have a hard copy of your agenda, projects and plans.  You especially need this if you live by precise time allotments.

Here are some examples of scheduling time:

1.  15 minute increments.  I recommend this to start out if you are having difficulty with getting anything done.  Train the brain to focus on the task at hand.  Eventually you will be able to upgrade to 30 minutes and even an hour.

2.  Blocking method.  For example you have to be out the door for 8am.  You have a shower, last minute work, dress, children, a spouse to get ready.  You know roughly how much time you need for each person and all of the tasks involved.  So you decide 5:30am is required to be up.  Block method is then scheduled in as morning routine from 5:30am to 8am in which I have to be out the door.

3.  There is another block method that I am more akin to.  A list of daily items may include:  work 3 hrs, lunch 1 hour, 3 personal hours supper 1 hour, work 3 more hours.

Now lets take a block:  first 3 hours of work.

I list a number of activities that need to be cleared.  Usually I have more on the list than required.  Any remaining items get moved to the next day.

I divide the list into top three priority items, I hate doing list, and then extras would like to get done.  In most cases the extras would likely get bumped into one of the above categories due to being left along or an opening has occurred in the top 3 item.  This example is by a dear friend of mine.

priority list:
  1. Edit finished work.  2 chapters.
  2. Call the publisher.
  3. Remove and install a better speech to text program.
hate to do:
  1. Phone calls.
  2. Networking.
  3. Typing hand written work because the program is crappy.
Extras:
  1. Start next chapter.
  2. Read business book on networking skills.  2 chapters.
  3. Re-define personal business mission statement to include written down changes.
  4. Clean desk area.
  5. Re-supply work area.  Will be needed done by end week.
Now with the list tomorrow she may still have 2 chapters to edit, doesn't have to call the publisher and has a new speech program set up.  So 2 things from the extras list can be bumped as priority.  Especially anything with a time date.  Under the hate to do list the program is running and no need to manually type in the written work so she may add files update or client screening and get those things done.  All the while she will be adding other things to do in her extras list.

I love this last one as it gives a running list of what was accomplished and easy to set the next day.  A more free form schedule is easier to maintain and allows for illness, interruptions etc.  All you have to do is mark down how far along you were before the interruption.  With changes like this stop at regular meal times even if you slept till 10am.  Lunch at 12 and now it is time to finish off that 1 1/2 hours of the morning work load.

Schedule how you need to and to what works best for you.  Not every system works for everybody.

Which system to you use?  Do you work on it daily or weekly?

Challenge 365 dream board option

Challenge 365 dream board option

Yearly Planning Session
I think I spent a good two hours on creating and making my project, goal, business, and life plans for the year.  That was all spent on the details alone.  Organizing like goals, datelines, and all of he personal stuff thrown in.  If you haven't done something like this before it could take longer than I did.  Some people may even have a quicker time doing it than I did.  Each year it gets easier for me to do!

Scrap Booking Materials
This was an amazing find.  It was a set of 6 scrap booking pages to make for only $4.99 at a over stock discount outlet.  I made 14 goal tracking sheets with just a little adding from my own supplies.

Scrap Booking completed
You see this is a dream board option.  I placed all of the finished pages into a binder that I can go through, read, check off, and carry around if I needed to.  I spent an hour making all of the sheets and another hour marking in all of the details.  In total I spent four hours to complete the project from start to finish.  To me it was time well spent.

I now am completely time managed and organized for the next year with allowances for scheduling changes.  It feels incredible to get it all done and it all looks pretty too.
Details finished

365 Challenge Update Agenda

365 Challenge Update Agenda

I did get this done on the first day.  By browser is having issues with photo uploading.  I spent the time today to learn how to get around the concerns.  :)  Always learning something!
There are three books here.  The one on the left is the one for family use.  I really enjoy this one as it has appointment, home, and menu spots for each day all lumped together.

The one on the right is my business schedule.  I also have a smaller version for my purse.

The middle one was a gem that I found at Walmart.  I was amazed!  It is a project book of 200 pages.  Time booking spots, details etc.  I loaded it up as I was entering 365 and Health Challenges through my agendas.

Some of the things I entered are:
  • Birthdays
  • Purchase by (for goal projects)
  • Anniversaries
  • Special days
  • Monthly goal updates
  • Quarterly Seasonal goal exchanges with information
  • Project deadlines
  • Holidays
  • Meal planning.
  • Outtings
  • Hubby Dates (one definitely set in per month, disabilty concerns taken into consideration for his illnesses)
  • Vacation time and plans
  • Work days
  • Household schedules
  • Doctor and Special fields (heart doc, etc) appointments
  • Travel for clinics.
So much more can be added to this list.  This is just some of the things I have filed in so far.

What other categories do you have to place into your agenda so that they are not fogotten or misplaced important things.

January Seasonal Tips 1

January Seasonal Tips 1

Well I suspect this would be an easy one.  :)  It is time for most of us to gather up all of the Christmas Decorations if it hasn't been done already.  These simple tips can be included for those who may not have celebrated the Season.  I have a few thrown in there for you as well!

Christmas Season Related.
  1. Gather all the boxes and bins you need to store your decorations.  Also grab twist ties and such to tie up lights and such so that you may save on next years sanity.  :)
  2. Have an extra bin in a room for the rest of the month.  I'm sure that this has happened to the best of us more than once.  You have found something that just gets stuck elsewhere or you tripped over it later when you thought everything was put away!  Keep the bin and add to it as you go through January.  You may have a small bundle or a whole bucket full.  At least next year you will know where you stuffed it all!  :)
New Year's Related.
  1. Agenda.  Grab them up.  I confess I need three.  YES, I said three.  For for carrying for business, my main business written in one and the house one!  Three.  Collect any school, work calenders and enter the dates of special events involved with each.  Check in your yearly appointments and special dates.  A few minutes now doesn't leaving you wondering what you forgot later.
  2. Take the resolutions and make them goal orientated.  Making flexible and reasonable goals makes more sense.  Having a developed plan with motivators and support go along further than a basic statement of "I will"  no matter how much enthusiasm is thrown in.
How do you keep track of the new year?

365 Challenge update

365 Challenge update

This weeks Baking.

Chocolate covered Graham crackers, Marshmallow suckers, and covered candy canes.

It has been along time since I covered candy canes.  This tiny little guys are the right size for dropping into a hot coffee or a hot chocolate.  Yummy!

Anyway you look at these they are awesome treats.  You can pick and choose the type of choclate and go from there.  Tone it down for health needs, darker choclate for health concerns, reduced sugar, even use white.  The possibilities are endless!
